You’ve completed your school work and made a few films in school, and now you need to figure out your next steps. What career options exist for filmmakers? How can you develop and raise money for a film project and still cover your living expenses?

This panel addresses these questions and provides examples and answers relevant to all makers of film and other media. 

Sharon Badal (Moderator)
Sharon Badal is head short film programmer for the Tribeca Film Festival. She has been with the festival since its inception and has produced special projects for various Tribeca entities since 1999. She is the author of Swimming Upstream – A Lifesaving Guide to Short Film Distribution. Badal is on the faculty of New York University Tisch School of the Arts Department of Film & Television teaching Film Distribution & Marketing, Producing Essentials, Senior Colloquium and team-teaches The Business of Producing at the Stern School of Business. 

Sandi DuBowski
Sandi DuBowski is the Director/Producer of Trembling Before G-d, Producer of A Jihad for Love, and Co-Producer of Budrus. His award-winning work has screened at Sundance, Berlin, Toronto and over 200 festivals, had theatrical release in over 150 cities, aired on BBC, The Sundance Channel, ZDF-Arte.  He is Outreach Director for The Good Pitch, was a media strategist with The Sundance Institute DFP at The 2010 Skoll World Forum, was a 2010 Mentor at BAVC Producer's Institute for New Media Technologies, and launched Films That Change the World www.filmsthatchangetheworld.com to engage people through global events. 

Macky Alston
Macky Alston is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, an educator on issues of media and religion, an organizer within the worlds of philanthropy and media-making, and a regular writer and reviewer on film and religion. Since 1998, Alston has been a partner at River Films, a documentary film company in New York City. Through firms such as Applied Research & Consulting and the Michael Cohen Group, he has consulted with a range of media companies on their organizational communications and marketing strategies.

Moon Molson
Moon Molson graduated with a M.F.A. from Columbia University, where he won the New Line Cinema Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking Award for his thesis film Pop Foul. Pop Foul went on to screen at over 100 international film festivals and has won 41 festival awards worldwide, including the Panavision Grand Jury Award at the 2007 Palm Springs ShortFest, the REEL Shorts Jury Award at the 2007 South By Southwest Film Festival (SXSW), the HBO Short Film Award at the 2006 American Black Film Festival, and the 2006 Student Academy Award.  He was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in Summer 2007 and one of indieWIRE's "Ten Exciting New Voices in Black Cinema" in Spring 2009. 

Buboo Kakati
Buboo Kakati is a three-time Emmy® winning writer, director, and producer; her work has aired on NBC, SHOWTIME, PBS, FOOD NETWORK and WNYE. She has over 13 years of experience developing and producing documentaries, television series and films.  As a filmmaker and screenwriter whose work has screened at over a hundred international film festivals, Buboo made an appearance on BRAVO TV as a Top 10 Director hand picked by Oscar winners Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for the Project Greenlight Contest. She was also selected to participate as screenwriter and director in the Tribeca Film Institute's prestigious Tribeca All Access Program. She serves as a judge for several international film and television festivals, and is a long-standing member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
